The Agora Hotel proudly announces the launch of The Heritage Sustainability Project, an
ambitious EU-funded initiative under the fuTOURiSME programme designed to drive the twin
transition – green and digital – within the tourism sector.
Twin transition refers to the simultaneous and interconnected transformation towards
environmental sustainability and digital innovation in business practices.
This 12-month project, which officially commenced in April 2025, marks a strategic step
forward for The Agora Hotel in aligning its operations with sustainability standards and
digital innovation. The Heritage Sustainability Project was designed in line with the objectives
of the European Union-funded fuTOURiSME programme (www.futourisme.eu), which aims to
support small and medium-sized tourism enterprises in adopting forward-thinking practices
that enhance their competitiveness and resilience.
“At The Agora Hotel, we believe that true luxury in hospitality must go hand-in-hand with
responsibility,” said Nicodemos, Director of Business Intelligence at The Agora Hotel. “This
project reflects our deep commitment to preserving the heritage of Lefkara, caring for the
well-being of our team, and embracing a more sustainable and digital future. It’s not just
about adapting; it’s about leading the way forward for tourism in Cyprus.”
The Heritage Sustainability Project represents a clear step forward in our long-term vision for
The Agora Hotel. We are committed to honouring Lefkara’s cultural and environmental
identity while actively embracing sustainable practices and digital innovation that will help
us grow responsibly and adapt to the future of tourism.
Through the project, The Agora Hotel will:
- Develop and adopt a tailor-made digital sustainability management tool, featuring capabilities for carbon footprint tracking, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability performance monitoring.
- Develop and adopt ISO 26000-aligned sustainability strategies, informed by stakeholder consultation and best practices in corporate social responsibility.
- Organise staff trainings, ensuring a strong foundation in sustainability principles, utilisation of relevant digital tools, and effective data collection.
- Undergo third-party verification of its sustainability strategy development practices based on the ISO 26000 standard, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.
Through embracing the principles of twin transition, The Agora Hotel seeks to improve its
operational efficiency, strengthen its market position, and lead by example in Cyprus’s
sustainable tourism landscape. Upon completion, the project will leave behind a well-targeted
corporate sustainability strategy and a fully operational digital system that will facilitate
effective sustainability management, guiding the hotel’s environmental and social efforts for
years to come.
