Η Isnotgallery contemporary παρουσιάζει την ομαδική έκθεση «Contemporary Art Under Pressure», μια έκθεση-θεσμό που εξελίσσεται διαχρονικά, με τον τίτλο της να μεταλλάσσεται σε άμεση συνάρτηση με τις κοινωνικοπολιτικές συνθήκες που διαμορφώνουν πλέον την καθημερινότητα σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.
Η έκθεση, που θα εγκαινιαστεί την Παρασκευή 8 Μαΐου στις 19:30, στον χώρο της Isnotgallery, πρωτοπαρουσιάστηκε το 2008 με τον τίτλο «Cheap Art», αποτελώντας ένα αιχμηρό, σχεδόν ειρωνικό σχόλιο πάνω στο κλίμα οικονομικής ευφορίας της εποχής. Λίγο αργότερα, η παγκόσμια οικονομική κρίση —με αφετηρία τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και τα διαδοχικά οικονομικά κραχ, καθώς και την κατάρρευση τραπεζικών κολοσσών όπως η Lehman Brothers— ανέτρεψε δραματικά το κοινωνικό και οικονομικό τοπίο. Οι κοινωνίες βρέθηκαν αντιμέτωπες με βαθιά αναταραχή, ενώ η Κύπρος οδηγήθηκε στο εξαναγκαστικό τραπεζικό κούρεμα του Μαρτίου του 2013.
Μέσα σε αυτό το περιβάλλον, η έκθεση μετονομάστηκε σε «Πλούσια Τέχνη σε Φτωχούς Καιρούς», τίτλος που αποτύπωνε εύστοχα τη νέα οικονομική και κοινωνική πραγματικότητα. Το 2021, έπειτα από επτά χρόνια και εν μέσω νέων, έντονων κοινωνικών προκλήσεων, η έκθεση εξελίχθηκε περαιτέρω σε «Πλούσια Τέχνη σε Δύσκολους Καιρούς».
ΣΧΕΤΙΚΑ ΑΡΘΡΑ
Σήμερα, ύστερα από ακόμη πέντε χρόνια διαρκών ανακατατάξεων και πρωτόγνωρων καταστάσεων σε παγκόσμιο και περιφερειακό επίπεδο, η έκθεση επαναπροσδιορίζεται ως «Contemporary Art Under Pressure». Οι εξελίξεις που βιώνει ο κόσμος – και ιδιαίτερα η περιοχή μας – δεν επιτρέπουν ουδετερότητα ή αδιαφορία. Η τέχνη βρίσκεται υπό πίεση, αλλά ταυτόχρονα παραμένει ένα από τα πιο ουσιαστικά μέσα αντίστασης απέναντι στη βία και τη βαρβαρότητα.
Σε περιόδους κρίσης και πολέμου, η τέχνη οφείλει να αφυπνίζει, να ταράζει και να προκαλεί· όχι να καθησυχάζει. Να αντιστέκεται σε κάθε μορφή κατεστημένου που οδηγεί σε πνευματικό λήθαργο και κοινωνική απομόνωση. Το ισχυρότερο έργο τέχνης είναι εκείνο που εκφράζει, εμπνέει και θέτει ερωτήματα, εκείνο του οποίου η σιωπή αντηχεί εκκωφαντικά.
Η Isnotgallery, παραμένοντας σταθερά προσανατολισμένη σε μια υπεύθυνη και ενεργή στάση απέναντι στα κοινωνικά δεδομένα, παρουσιάζει για ακόμη μία χρονιά έργα καταξιωμένων καλλιτεχνών, με ανώτατη τιμή πώλησης τα €500.
Σε μια περίοδο προκλήσεων, η τέχνη καλείται να λειτουργήσει ως καταφύγιο, ως μέσο ενδυνάμωσης, αφύπνισης και ψυχολογικής στήριξης. Ένα εργαλείο αντίστασης που, με δύναμη και ευαισθησία, υπερασπίζεται την ανθρώπινη αξιοπρέπεια και αποδομεί τη βία.

Isnotgallery contemporary presents the group exhibition “Contemporary Art Under Pressure”, an exhibition that has become an established annual event and whose title evolves in response to the socio-political conditions that increasingly shape everyday life on a global scale.
This group exhibition, opening on Friday, May 8th, at 19:30 at Isnotgallery, was first presented in 2008 under the title “Cheap Art”, serving as a somewhat ironic commentary on the prevailing climate of economic abundance at the time. This period was soon followed by a global financial crisis, originating in the United States with successive economic crashes and the collapse of major banking institutions such as Lehman Brothers. In the years that followed, societies experienced profound social and economic disruption, with Cypriot society ultimately subjected to a forced bank deposit haircut in March 2013. At that point, the exhibition’s title transformed into “Rich Art in Poor Times”, reflecting the economic and social realities of the era. Seven years later, in 2021, amid increasingly difficult social conditions, the title evolved once again into “Rich Art in Difficult Times”.
Maintaining this title for the following five years, and continuing to confront ongoing social challenges, we are once again compelled to redefine the exhibition as “Contemporary Art Under Pressure”. The unprecedented circumstances faced globally—and particularly within our region – demand engagement rather than indifference.
Art itself is under pressure, and it remains our most powerful means of resistance against the harsh realities of our time.
In times of conflict, art becomes a tool of awakening—one that must provoke rather than merely please, challenge rather than comfort. It stands in opposition to all forms of establishment that impose intellectual stagnation and social isolation. The most powerful works are those that express, inspire, and challenge society—those whose silence resonates the loudest.
Once again, Isnotgallery positions itself on the right side of history, presenting a selection of works by established artists, with a maximum sale price of €500. We carry the responsibility to respond thoughtfully and conscientiously to today’s social adversities. Art must support and embrace all people in difficult times. It must serve as a refuge – offering not only aesthetic experience, but also awakening, resistance, and psychological support – confronting violence and defending our shared humanity.
